Finally. It’s taken 20months of leading trad to climb my first ‘proper’ E1 yesterday. Not just a glorified 6m boulder route. It’s called Pinnacle Arete at Wharncliffe. You can check it here

The same day also top roped an E2 that I’m fairly certain I’d rather do over my boulder mat than with a rope on as I couldn’t find a placement on it.

And I spent my day with these two cracking people

O and find this little fellow while soloing. I nearly fell off!

It’s gritstone season, welcome to my backyard! If in the Sheffield area come say hi and share a nip of the strong stuff at a crag

Peace x

What an awesome week

So the mrs was away which means I can play (climb) party (climb) and be naughty (climb harder?)

The weekend was epic as you will have seen and Monday started with a stunning hangover, a good session on woodhouse with Jack and Bex sorted that with my first climb of Centipede HS 4b and good for that grade, horrid top out below.

The evening culminated in a stunning sunset.
Tuesday was myself and Jack exploring at Hetchell Woods, great secluded venue and odd rock and climbs, requires a step back and a rethink. Led centurion (S4a) and walked away happy

Wednesday was another session at Wharncliffe where I had unfinished business.  Introduced Dave to the great buttress then I put up Trapeze (HS4b) and then soloed Fly Wall (HS 4a) although where you are meant to place gear I haven’t a clue. I got in trouble for this photo….

Then last night I went back to the climbing works, first time since I bust my finger there, although nervous I quickly reestablished myself on the yellows and loved the setting. I had forgotten just how good the climbing works is.

Climb strong people and make the most of the summer

(Can you feel the positivity?)

The virus continues, the weight goes up, the climbing improves

So not much exercise, an excess of paracetemol and a few sessions climbing.

Last Sunday feeling rough, but birthday group en masse we went out to Wharncliffe, my first time on the rock there and had a great day. Routes are 8-12m occasionally higher. Shifted 5 lead climbs, with Chris out due to a broken arm it fell on me to do the leading and that was a huge push to stretch myself. The shiny cams and quickdraws got their first scratches and scrapes 🙂

Also strayed into the 6a+ & 6b routes in the Works and shifted a steady V4/5 at the depot. The week has to be considered progress by any means. Hopefully a good session on Burbage tomorrow

On another note, new Pinkle route at the works……torture, pure torture.
